Missing from the Village – Audiobook Online

Missing from the Village is a memoir by author Justin Ling.
The tragic and resonating story of the disappearance of eight men. Victim of serial killer Bruce McArthur—from Toronto’s gay community.

In 2013, the Toronto Police Department announced that the disappearances of three men—Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi and Majeed Kayhan—from the gay village of Toronto may be linked. The leads dried up, the investigation was discontinued, on paper classified as “open but suspended.” In 2015, investigative journalist Justin Ling began tracking down investigators, convinced that there was evidence of a serial killer. More men will go missing and police will continue to deny that there is a threat to the community. On January 18, 2018, Bruce McArthur, a gardener, will be arrested on suspicion of first degree murder. In February 2019, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 8 men.

The book tells the full story of McArthur’s murder. The response of the gay community, and the story of eight missing men and the lives they left behind. In telling that story, Justin Ling discovered the underlying homophobia and racism that kept this case unsolved and unseen. This fascinating book shows how police agencies around the country have not taken missing person cases seriously. Policies and laws, written at all levels of government, pushed McArthur’s victims out of the light and into darkness.
