The second part gives us the feeling that the first part never ended, the continuation is so fabulous that the break is never felt. Adrian Tchaikovsky puts the fate of humans in the balance as they start the battle for survival after evacuating the planet they called home.

It’s the doing of their own forefathers that the humans face after a period of thousands of years. The humans that survived the destruction of their home were in search of a new planet and then they get signals from Nod. The nod was the planet that was found thousands of years ago during a terraforming program by human scientists.

They wanted to make it a safe home for the humans thus they altered the minds of the aliens that already inhabited the planet. Now the future human race comes to the planet with no idea of what happened in the past and the inhabitant of the planet want to return something to them. Unluckily the thing that they want to return is not love or support. 

It’s a battle of lifetime that started in Children of Time in the humans first and now it’s between humans and aliens. The rules are simple, show no mercy to the other and you will survive otherwise be ready for the opposite. The narration with the exciting tome continues to attract us as Mel Hudson takes charge in this second part of the saga as well. Mel never gives a relaxing touch to the novel which is quite an effort by the narrator who shows the true intensity through the voice that is one of a kind.
