The Gam3 series is an attempt at world building. This is not something to be taken lightly as a normal subgenre is any good. They’re better at building characters and then relying more heavily on the reader’s understanding of how MMOs work for us to fill in the blanks of the world. Built-in rules for how we know things work provide clear goals and progress forward that we can follow. There is really no world exploration, the quest is beyond great that the author dreams of setting the whole plot and where we go on the rails. Test a place that exists as a game system. The developers set up an area to work a certain way, and the MC has to figure out what that is.
