The relations that are present around her are all artificial, relatives like her nanny and father the one who has adopted her after all the catastrophe. 

Overall the girl is made to kill aliens and protect what is left of the Earth. This is the last hope that the humans have and if this ship and the girl are destroyed than the Earth is the planet the powerful aliens will have for dinner soon. Foreign race that considered humans a weak creature are not in fun mood anymore they know that the people of the Earth prove to be far more capable than they first anticipated.
