From Scratch – A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home By Tembi Locke

From Scratch is a personal memoir of Tembi Locke. It is a poignant and a highly inspiring cross cultural type of a love story, which is set right against the Sicilian countryside’s lush backdrop. One woman in the story finds out about the many healing powers of family, food and the unexpected grace to be experienced even in the darkest hour. Tembi Locke herself has done the narration of this book and she played her heart out with great emotion, expression and soul.

Tembi and chef Soro fell in love right at first sight and this all happened somewhere in Florence upon their first ever meeting. But, there was a problem to carry on with their love affair. The problem was that the traditional Sicilian family of Saro was not ready to approve the marriage of Saro with a black American woman and who was also an actress.

They both were heartbroken with the circumstances but didn’t gave up. They managed to build a very happy life for themselves in Los Angeles and had flourishing careers and absolutely strong friendship as well. They adopted a little baby girl at her birth and she became the joint love of their life. They managed to reconcile with the family of Saro as he had formidable cancer.

In Sicily, there is a belief that every tale begins either with a marriage or a death. Fr Tembi Locke, it was in fact both. Her story unfortunately is more about loss than gain. But, it has a great element of love and a great story about travel as well. Moreover, it is also a story about finding home, where your love and peace is.
