Imitation in Death/ In Death, Book 17 – Audiobook Online

Imitation in Death is the 17th mystery novel in the In Death series by author J. D. Robb.
Summer of 2059. A man in a cape and cap approaches a prostitute on a dark New York City street. Minutes later, the woman was dead. At the scene is a letter to Lieutenant Eve Dallas, inviting her to play his game and reveal his identity. He signed it, “Jack.”
Now Dallas is chasing a killer who knows as much about the history of serial killers as she does. He studies the most notorious and heinous murders of modern times. He also wanted to make his own mark. And he chose his victim: Eve Dallas. And all Eve knows is that he plans to imitate the most notorious killers – starting with Jack the Ripper.

This is a good novel. I wanted to write a review because I saw a lot of negative reviews about the confusing novel and about the ending. I think if people aren’t actively trying to solve the mystery being presented to them as they read deeper into the story, then yes, you’ll be in trouble, especially at the end. This story is about thinking, and I think Iain Reid expects us to also think in order to understand the plot. It’s well-paced, suspenseful – and everything comes together at the end if you put your mind to it.

Everyone Jake and his girlfriend see, talk to, and do on their trip have a purpose. Their trip was purposeful and important to the girlfriend in her decision to the question that she had in mind. She was psychologically tested, and we, the readers, found her thinking. Because she doesn’t know everything, we don’t know everything, and doing that is very scary to her.
