This is the fairy tale as it was told to me as a child. The author/illustrator is right and doesn’t cover the road. When I was in elementary school, I fell in love with her illustrations in Snow White, so much so that I often borrowed books when I was out of the library. One day it was checked by someone who never brought it back. I found and purchased that book decades later and relived my fascination with beautiful dark paintings that reflected the expression of the fairy tale. I was happy to find other stories illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman and happy to add this one to my collection.
