Lives Of The Stoics The Art Of Living From Zeno To Marcus Aurelius – Audiobook Online By: Ryan Holiday , Stephen Hanselman

Nearly 2,300 years after a faltering merchant named Zeno first founded a school in Athens’ Stoa Poikile, Stoicism has found a new audience among the greats seekers, from athletes to politicians and everyone in between.

No wonder; philosophy and its embrace of autonomy, virtue, and indifference to what we have no control over is as urgent today as it was in the tumultuous times of the Roman Empire.

In Lives of the Stoics, Holiday and Hanselman present the fascinating lives of men and women who strive to live up to the timeless Stoic virtue of Courage. Justice. moderation. Wise. Organized as small, easy-to-understand biographies of all the famous – and not so famous – Stoics, this book gives Stoic lovers and living a way of life. movement on Stoicism, drawing powerful lessons to learn from their struggles and successes.

More than a mere history book, every example, from Epictetus to Marcus Aurelius – from slave to emperor – is designed to help listeners apply philosophy to their own lives. Holiday and Hanselman reveal the core values and ideas that bind characters from Seneca to Cato to Cicero over the centuries.

Among them is the opinion that self-rule is the greatest empire, character is fate; how the Stoics benefited from preparing not only for success but also for failure; and learn to love, not merely accept, the hand with which they are treated in life. A treasure trove of valuable insights and stories, this book can be viewed over and over again by any listener for inspiration from the past.

Just another great piece from the most modern stoic. Great listen if you want to learn about some of the greats and the moments that made them stoic legends. Can’t recommend this work enough, a must-read for everyone learning about stoic history. Great tool.

I really like this book. Well done, well researched and as always, Ryan Holiday did a great job of narrating. Stop complaining and take responsibility is what really stood out to me on my second reading. Will definitely carry this work with me from start to finish
