Mad River/ A Virgil Flowers Novel, Book 6 – Audiobook Online

Mad River is the sixth mystery novel in the A Virgil Flowers Novel series by author John Sandford.
Bonnie and Clyde, they thought. And what is his name, companion. Three teenagers with stuck lives, on their shoulders and guns.

The first person they killed was a highway patrolman. The second is a woman in a robbery. As their criminal assault spreads across rural Minnesota, several crimes are recorded on the killers’ cell phones and sent to a local television station, investigator Virgil Flowers’s The Criminal Investigation Department joins a growing army of policemen trying to track them down. Nor did he realize what was about to happen next.

Sanford is consistently good, so I don’t want to give it less than five stars. If Amazon gave it ten stars, I’d give it nine, because it’s not quite as good as some of his other Virgil Flowers books. However, it has strong characters, especially strong villains. The plot is pretty simple: some kind of Bonnie and cyde rush to kill and Flowers and his party find a way to track them down. In the process, Flowers discovers another murder orchestrated by a local Millionaire.

There are some interesting plot twists, such as a particularly nasty sheriff (What does Sanford have against the sheriff? Isn’t this his first despicable “County Mounty”? And perspective Sandford’s politics, represented by characters he loathes, are starting to become offensive.) We also learn a few things about Flowers that we didn’t know about (or were mentioned) before. so sketchy that I missed them), such as the fact that he was the son of a Marshall, Minnesota minister. The action is fast, and the villains are drawn to more sympathy than their actions deserve.
