Maisie Dobbs is a brilliant young woman who starts out as a servant. Her employers see her potential and provide her with an education and see that she is able to attend university. WWI intervenes and Maisie leaves college to be a nurse on the front lines in France. The book follows Maisie ten years after the war’s end and goes back and forth between the war and 1929. Maisie is starting her own investigative practice–no small feat in that time. A lovely book with characters that you care about.
