Necessary as Blood – Duncan Kincaid / Gemma James Mystery Novels Book 13
Necessary as Blood is the 13th literary fiction and nonfiction book in the Duncan Kincaid / Gemma James Mystery Novels series by acclaimed author Deborah Crombie. Macavity Prize-winning Deborah Crombie paints a vivid portrait of the seeds of England. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in mid-May, a young mother Sandra Gilles left her daughter with a friend at the Flower Market on Columbia Road and disappeared. Her husband, a Pakistani lawyer, was killed. Scotland’s Gemma James arrives on the scene just in time to witness the investigator making a mistake.
When Duncan and his trusted sergeant, Doug Cullen, they decided to handle the case. Gemma, Duncan, Doug and Melody Talbot deal with it before the killer gets his hands on the real prize. When the incident turned dangerous, personal problems threatened to throw Gemma and Duncan off the beaten track. It is their responsibility to stop a vicious killer and protect the child whose fate hangs in the balance.
Here are some comments from readers to better understand this good audiobooks:
01- The novel NECESSAY AS BLOOD is the key part in the magical crime series. The book highlights and explains the arrival of adorable three-year-old Charlotte in the lives of Duncan and Gemma and their two completely real life charm boys.
The crime story is gripping and completely unpredictable. Extraordinary character development, superb use of physical and sensory details, brilliant intellect but not to mention the ocean’s compassion for those who suffer.
02- Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James’ book offers a story that works on many levels, a mystery that holds you back. The way Crombie handles all of her recurring characters to develop additional dimensions gives the whole story mystery and richness.
This story is overrated. Mysteries about who was behind the disappearance of a talented artist and the death of her husband, leaving behind a needy toddler. This is a story that attracts everyone’s attention. The plot has some questions and red threads that keep the story cohesive throughout the length of this book.
03- This book is about what is going on in the lives of Kincaid and James and those around them. Plots run through each book and they overlap, intertwine, and bounce off each other until Crombie somehow merges them into a whole with each plot playing a different role. The only attraction of this book is that the main story begins, which takes place a few days or weeks after the prologue.
The mystery novel could sustain a long series with a cast of detectives.
04- Deborah Crombie is a gifted storyteller. The book is a gift to her loyal readers who have been waiting for Duncan and Gemma to resolve their marital and family problems. The mysterious part of this book is profound – you know that Sandra is most likely dead, you hope to Gemma that she will return to her daughter. Crombie’s characters are well developed, some of them progressing more towards the beginning of the series in this book. Tim and Hazel, how will Melody deal with her father, and whether Gemma and Duncan can keep Charlotte safe from the Sandra family in the future.
The series will evolve so Duncan and Gemma can work to solve their own cases independently. Cromie has surpassed Elizabeth George in my list of favorite British detective series writers.
