Rutherfurd did a wonderful job as a storyteller and historian. As a New Yorker, this novel embodies the spirit and determination of different families and the vast experiences of America’s “blooming pot”. The choice to represent so many cultures and their respective experiences provided a great perspective. The narrator also did a great job. My only complaint is his pronunciation of “Pastor George Whitefield” which is in fact pronounced “Whit-field” and not “White-field”. This book would be an excellent choice for inclusion in a high school Social Science curriculum.
