This author resonates with me completely. She describes a parenting method in this book that I didn’t realize I was looking for. I’ve always been very pragmatic, and as a first-time mom, I immerse myself in literature in an effort to give my son the best parent he can possibly have. But every method has aspects that I agree with and disagree with, so I set out to pick and choose the ones that work for me or my son. Obviously that turned out to be confusing, inconsistent and complicated and wasn’t good for either of us.

Janet has no secrets or gimmicks that will make you a great parent overnight, but what she does is show you the power of respect. Instead of demanding respect and obedience, she shows how you can form a partnership with your child of mutual love and trust.

This has as much to do with handling your own emotions and expectations as it does with helping your child manage their emotions and expectations.
