Here are some comments from readers to better understand this good audiobooks:
01- The story No Mark Upon Her is a good one with a lot of insight into the British pleasures of sailing. Scenes about the family lives of the policemen involved are part of the book. The emerging genre includes police procedurals and mystery books, where the underlying crime is secondary to the personal trials and tribulations of detectives in their lives on duty. The name scenes warn us all when reading this book. There’s a reason the great fictional detectives – Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Nero Wolfe, Philip Marlowe, Miss Marple, Inspector Morse and Adam Dalgliesh are all bachelors. Their authors don’t want their main characters’ entanglements to disrupt the pace of the story.
02- The book deals with a separate mystery and murder, a recurring theme of the family throughout all the stories. Murder often comes to Duncan and Gemma – separately from each other.
This is the story of a murder with quite a few potential suspects. An urban police officer and rower, training for the upcoming Olympics, was found dead on the banks of the Thames at Henley. Suspicion fell on her ex-husband, but Kincaid wasn’t ready yet. What about Kincaid’s former coach, who might not want a rower of Becca’s caliber to compete with his current rowing team? Or her current lover, a former rower and Iraqi combat medic who is currently engaged in search and rescue work? Or is the senior colleague rumored to have harassed female officers for years and blackmailed them without reporting it? And how does one of the four dogs in this novel become instrumental to its solution?
03- Crombie writes the story to engage the reader. She also invented the art of crafting a long story with repeating characters that strikes the right balance between keeping them internally consistent from book to book in order to understand what’s going on. happening. I have read several of her books out of order and I feel that I can pick any one and quickly focus on that story. She stands out as a thoughtful writer and an excellent storyteller. In this book, she also immerses the reader in the strange, esoteric world of competitive sailing without getting lost in the details.
