This description may be from another version of this product.

I read it a few weeks after it came out – it was my first McBain book, and it got me hooked on the rest. Carella, Hawes, Kling, Meyer, Brown and all the rest are now my favorites. Ed McBain has drawn vivid features of very different people – policemen, prostitutes, rich kids, fraudsters, and even a crazy weirdo. I guarantee if you read this novel you will be a lifelong McBain fan.

The police officers of district 87 have a new murder to work on. The two detectives in the case, Carella and Hawes, consider this to be an open and closed case. Dyalovich had withdrawn $125,000 from her bank on the very day she was murdered. Suddenly there were too many suspects who would be willing to do anything to get such a quick fortune. …… At the same time, another district officer, “Fat Ollie” Weeks is investigating the murder of a pimp, drug dealer and a prostitute. As evidence accumulated in this case, it intertwined with the Carella-Hawes investigation. The 87th precinct series has been going on for more than four decades, and Ed McBain continues to write some of the newest police procedurals on the market today. Fans of the series will love NOCTURNE because it’s the usual great grit maker that gives life to the city streets and the officers, criminals, and civilians that live on them. For any mystery fans who haven’t read McBain’s novels, this is a great place to start – it will be a reading experience that will prove the worth of your dead presidents. ……..Harriet Klausner
