Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. Yes, the Marquis of Mandeville is a bit dull and has no sense of humour, but that doesn’t bother the Hero… until she meets his notorious brother.

Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect – and he likes it. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst drunken fun at night. The Hero immediately dislikes him, and Griffin thinks that the Hero, with her charity and faultless manners, is too perfect for society, let alone his brother. However, their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks lust – the desire to bring their carefully constructed world to pieces. As the Hero’s wedding draws near, and Griffin’s enemies plan to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect humans find perfect true love?

This book is not what I expected. Very poorly written dialogue between the two supposedly adult protagonists; He’s annoyed by the shocking value, and she sounds upper-class, but always has her ankles in the air. It all just feels wrong. Wrong in time and wrong in love.

I love Hero in the first book, she is strong and determined. But in this book, she’s such a victim that she’s not that character at all.

He seduced her over and over and then acted like he didn’t need to be involved in what happened to her afterward — and she let him off the hook. He only decides to marry her quite late in the book, which is not to be expected in a book set in this period, or for a woman of her status. If there is such a thing as Regency BDSM romance novels, this is it. No whips and chains, of course.
