Of Kings and Killers is the third science fiction book in the series by author Will Wight.
If you’ve heard other companion novels in the Elder Empire, then you know how it works. If not, you might want to look up those books for an explanation of how these parallel stories interact with each other. When you’re ready to move on, here’s a glimpse of the road ahead….

Calder was proclaimed Imperial Steward, the Emperor’s official successor. He leads the Empire from the throne, just as he always wanted to.

In their tombs, the great Elders stir.

The crack in the sky is becoming more and more alarming, so Calder and his loyal Imperial Guilds seek a truce with their Independence opponents.

Both sides knew the Elders were the real enemy, but that didn’t easily make peace. Blood was spilled, trust was hard to come by, and the Clan Heads under Calder saw him as nothing more than a puppet.

For civilization to survive, Calder must lead and prove himself to allies as well as enemies.

But he faces an ancient Order of spies and assassins led by a woman who wants him dead most: the Shera of the Gardeners.

For me, the Elder Empire series has always ranked third after the Visitor Gate and Cradle books. But the last books in the series are pretty good. Cradleverse tie/Easter eggs are great.

I have never bothered to approach flashback chapters to further explain the story, although some readers may not like that approach. It would be nice to see more of the characters’ backstory and the overall world.

I mostly prefer Calder’s story point of view, but again both books are really good this time around. Shera seems more relatable/understandable and not a mindless killer, killing machine.

There are very few authors like Will Wight that I can say I absolutely enjoy, if not all, of their books/series. Please continue to uphold!
