Jenny Heijun Wills was born in South Korea and adopted as an infant into a small-town Canadian white family. In her late 20s, she reconnected with her first family and moved back to Seoul, where she spent 4 months getting to know other adopters, as well as her mother, father, siblings, and grandparents. Her Korean family. At the transnational adopters guesthouse where she lives, alliances are troubled by violence and rife with traumas of separation and cultural illiteracy. Not surprisingly and heartbreakingly, Wills found that her fledgling relationship with her family was similarly strained.

Ten years later, Wills maintains a close relationship with her Korean family. Her Korean parents and younger sister attended her wedding in Montreal, and the older sister now lives in Canada. Notably, meeting Jenny reunited her biological parents after a period of separation since her adoption. Little by little, Jenny Heijun Wills is learning and re-learning her stories and those of her immediate relatives, piecing together a fragmented life into something like a whole.
