On Corruption in America is a history book by author Sarah Chayes.
Sarah Chayes writes in her new book that the United States is showing signs of being similar to some of the most corrupt countries in the world. She argues that corruption is an operating system of sophisticated networks in which government officials, important private sector interests and crime are completely intertwined.

Their main goal: not to serve the public, but to maximize profits for the members of the network.

In this uncompromising exploration of corruption in America, Chayes exposes how corruption thrives within our borders – from the giants of America’s Golden Age (Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and others) to the stock market crash in the United States. 1929, The Great Depression and the FDR New Deal; from Joe Kennedy’s years of banking, smuggling, machine politics, and pursuit of limitless wealth to the deregulation of the Reagan Revolution – eroding the nation’s proud middle class this and union members.

She then brings us to the present as she unravels Clinton’s policies on politics and personal enrichment, while documenting the corrupt network led by Trump that aims to support the systematically repeal our Constitution and laws.

Chayes reveals how corrupt systems are organized, how they allow the bad guys to circumvent the law so that their crimes are hidden from the law, how they openly define the shape of our government, and how they influence the law. affect all walks of life, especially when they affect all walks of life. In society, corruption is ignored and demeaned by the rich and well-educated.

Sarah Chayes turns the skills she learned working alongside corrupt regimes in Afghanistan and elsewhere to analyze American government, politics, and business. After a discussion of corruption through the ages, she delves into the inequality of the Gilded Age. She deals with relative equality, commonwealth, and progressive policies in the years after the recession up to the second world war until about 1980.

She attributes Ronald’s election Reagan was the beginning of the second Golden Age. She points out that the return of corruption, cronyism and widespread environmental destruction since then is a bipartisan issue. Although the book ends before the January 6 uprising and the Ukraine War, they seem almost inevitable after reading this book. She concludes with some suggestions on how to bring a return to a more collaborative era for the benefit of all. An eye-opening read. Highly recommended.
