On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a literary fiction book by author Ian Fleming.
At his Alpine base, Blofeld is developing biological weapons that will wreak havoc on Britain. Unaware of danger, James Bond is about to marry Teresa di Vicenzo, the daughter of a Corsican Mafioso. But then he was sent to Switzerland. Bond’s marriage and Blofeld’s conspiracies fall apart in a storm of bullets and explosives in which no man comes out victorious.

Of course I read all the James Bond Novels and watched all the movies. Many of them bear little resemblance to the books. This is one of the best of both. Of course, the book has a sad ending because Bond is a tragic, but good, hero. The movie plot is close enough to the book for it to flow and make sense. There’s also the one-time Bond actor, George Lazenby, who I like best after Sean Connery. Telly Savalas as Earnst Bloefeld is amazing. And Diana Rigg, my favorite from the original Avengers, is great, too. I know this is a book review, but the movie is also excellent.

The hero, Bond, acts like a hero to human failures. Bloefeld is a villain with all the traits that make him a great villain. Excellent.

There is an unrelated point – in the previous book, Bond “From Russia with Love” was almost killed by Irma Blount. In this book, not recognizing the other has no meaning. Other than that, no problem. Great book.
