Orlando is a literary fiction book by author Virginia Woolf.
An exploration of androgyny and the creative life of a woman, it is considered a work on feminism. Arguably one of Woolf’s most famous stories, it marked a turning point in her career, away from her more introspective works. Having received both critical and financial success, it ensured Woolf’s financial stability.
Orlando is a uniquely entertaining story. Originally conceived by Virginia Woolf as a playful gift for the family of her friend and lover, Vita Sackville-West, Orlando’s central character, a fictional embodiment of Sackville-West, changes. gender from man to woman and live through the centuries, while meeting historical figures of English literature.

The book opens with Orlando as a young aristocrat in Elizabethan England who finds love with a Russian princess. During the reign of Charles II, he was ambassador to Constantinople and became Duke. But Orlando lived through it all. And although his gender changes, his rich and versatile personality doesn’t change and remains captivating throughout the book, keeping you mesmerized from the first word to the last. . Clare Higgins is a gifted storyteller and her clear, musical expression helps make the story interesting. I have listened to the book twice and I plan to do it many more times. I also intend to buy more books by the author.
