I love this series for the same reason that other reviewers have listed. The visuals, endless depth of characters, and intricate storyline won’t let you down. But one of my favorite parts of this story is the gracefully clumsy FBI agent. I laughed out loud (in public) several times during this story, mostly when she joined in. It’s a bit odd in the end, because she doesn’t play a major role in the story in the end – I hope he brings her back in later books.
I love Burke, I respect his point of view, I love his subject matter. This line is getting better and better

I’ve only read two of Dave Robicheaux’s novels, but if they were all as good I’d be surprised. The story feels rooted in fact, if not absurd. A gritty detective story with all the essentials, sexual decadence, evil psychopaths, spoiled DA, alcoholic drinkers, fat women… Its focus is Dave Robicheaux, a man rich in emotion and depth, is ready to kick the ass of anyone who deserves it.
