Prisoner of Night is a beautiful book by author J. R. Ward.

Ward has always said that she has a hard time writing about women, but I don’t find that to be entirely true of Ahmare. She’s pretty awesome, she’s determined to get her brother back. Even if that means taking a dangerous prisoner (Duran) who has been locked away for over 20 years with her.
They had to find and get something for her brother to be released.

I love Duran, he is exactly the person you would think of when you think about someone who has been against their will for a long time.
But oddly positive, he knows who Ahmare is, even if she doesn’t know it herself, and he doesn’t rebuke her about what she must do to win her family back.

I love the ups and downs, only this time getting another Shadow as a female character is fun and exciting.

I really like the novels where we are still in the world of BDB but there are no characters that we have come to know and love.
