Rebecca is my all-time favorite novel. There’s nothing better than this gothic fairy tale, famously set in Manderley. The suspense that du Maurier builds is unbelievable. I watched the Hitchcock movie and I loved it so much more, not only because the characters are so much more detailed (obviously) but because of the different and VERY better ending in the book. I felt very differently about both characters at the end. The whole thing is very Jane Eyre but even darker in a thrilling way. It says something that I didn’t realize I didn’t know the main character’s name but everyone in the book speaks to her directly. I read it over and over, watched the play, and watched the movie. The best thing to do is read it.

I’m totally clueless about this book, I know nothing about the genre or know anything about it but after a friend absolutely loved it, I can’t wait to jump in, especially with the new adaptation. published.

At first, I can only describe prose as the language of a traditional afternoon tea. It was beautiful, the sentence structure was fluid and all I wanted to do was eat cucumber sandwiches and scones while gazing at the view of the sprawling fields while reading.
