Redeeming Love – Free Full Audiobook

Redeeming Love is a literary fiction book by author Francine Rivers.
Francine Rivers is one of America’s most beloved romance writers and bestselling inspirational author. Many of her heartfelt novels have won awards and love from fans across the country. In Redemptive Love, she recounts the biblical story of Hosea, set in the 1850s, in the midst of California’s golden land.

I understand what Francine Rivers is aiming for but I agree with many reviewers, she missed her target. And those who have given her a lot of praise, I think they’re missing something or they’re deliberately cleaning up their perception to be what they want the book to be, not what it is. turned out.

Rivers attempted to recreate the biblical story of the prophet Hosea and the promiscuous woman God told him to marry. I won’t go into the story here, if you are a Catholic then you probably already know. Part of the reason for Rivers up’s stumbling may be that while God was using Hosea and Gomer in tandem with Israel’s disloyalty to God, then it’s a story that’s harder to translate into a more contemporary love story between a man and a woman. According to Christians, God did not consider men and women “equal” then, or even now. The man is the head and the woman submits to his authority, just as the man submits to God’s authority.

I think many readers might have accepted what happened to Angel if her character arc had been more fully developed – but following God’s way of dealing with an Israel that doesn’t seem to learn from those her mistake, the author sent Angel to a place where her character should have taken the next step to forgive herself and choose a healthier path, but instead she chose to shoot back to prostitution, like the biblical Gomer.

To complicate matters more, the author has made Michael, the simile or metaphor for Hosea, an extremely patriarchal man who, in his “love” for the Angel, becomes the punisher. her more, forcing her to submit just as God tried to do with Israel thousands of years ago. many years ago. That said, IF Michael’s character follows the natural human path that God seems to expect of us, then he will realize his behavior and treatment of Angels is wrong – but wait, because Michael represents Hosea, and Hosea represents God, what does that say about God? Don’t think I will go there…

But because of those contradictions, this story doesn’t work well as an illustration of God’s love for Israel or Michael’s love for the Angel.

I finished this book in just a few nights and I just can’t put it down. I stayed up a bit late on work nights to read. I am both in love and extremely disappointed with the main character. I’m not sure what to think of a Christian book with a prostitution theme, but the author did a great job!
