Rise of Empire (Full Audiobook) by Michael J. Sullivan

Michael J. Sullivan writes the second volume of the series in a nice continuation. Though it’s like the second adventure of the two friends but the basic personalities are still the same and no alteration is being done in it.

This time the two friends Royce and Hadrian go to the Southern lands in order to help the Melengar kingdom. Though at the start we don’t find the two friends on the same page as a difference of opinion can be seen between the two. Royce seems to be more desperate to save the state but Hadrian shows least of the interest. It is the emergence of two heroes as well that started from the first book when the two left the only thing in which they were skilled i.e robberies.

The Riyria Revelations really live up to its true meaning when Royce starts investigating about the past of Hadrian and understands the cause because of which he was hesitant to join the mission. Hadrian never wanted to come because there are certain things in his life that he doesn’t want to talk about any more, thing related to wizardry. Royce suspects that the same wizard who made Hadrian’s life a hell in the past is altering the things in Melengar. Tim Gerard Reynolds like the previous part Theft of Swords completes the story once again in an excellent way through his narration.

The narration is not done in an over enthusiastic manner thus a nice balance can be observed throughout and the story can be listen with a peace of mind at night even because there is not yelling involved.
