Silverthorn – Riftwar Book 3

Silverthorn is the third science novel in the Riftwar series by author Raymond E. Feist. A bolt of poison fell on Princess Anita on the day of her wedding to Prince Arutha of Krondor. To save her lover, Arutha sets out in search of a mythical herb called Silverthorn that grows in the dark and forbidden land of the Spellweavers. He will confront an ancient evil and the darkness that threatens the enchanted kingdom of Midkemia.

Here are the top 3 reviews and comments that readers love about this fascinating book.

Review 1: Silverthorn – Riftwar Book 3 audiobook by Gloria

Some minor weak points, but an excellent 3rd book.

Centering more on Arutha and his clandestine mission, to a degree, Silverthorn departs from Pug. It does not hurt for this, but helps to continue Feist’s progression of opening a larger story to his audience.

At the outset of this series, I considered him to be slightly deficient, but Nicholas Guy Smith has developed into a solid narrator. While he doesn’t possess a wide range of unique voices, in this third entry into the Riftwar Saga he shows himself more than capable of a compelling reading.

In many series, the penultimate book lacks a satisfying resolution. Not so with Silverthorn. It is, however, within this conclusion that it suffers. It completes the tale, but it feels as though it was wrapped hastily and without the time and consideration that the rest of the novel exudes. Minor events seem illogical and the number of pages given are few (perhaps more of an editing decision).

Again, the deficiencies here really aren’t significant enough to reduce it to 4 stars. This is a well-written tale with characters we’re growing to enjoy, love, and even respect.

Review 2: Silverthorn – Riftwar Book 3 audiobook by DarkSyd

I originally read this series back when it first came out, and I’ve been (not so) patiently been waiting for the Kindle version. The story is great; always has been, always will be. The characters come to life and the action is almost non-stop. When I’m reading the series (which I’ve done about 25 times since it’s release) I can’t put it down. It draws me in and holds my attention. Thankfully I can now carry the whole series with me anytime I go somewhere.

And yes, this is the same review I gave to the second book, and everything still applies!
