I love this book. Like many people with great reasons to drive home, Mr Thomson went too far. Reading this book, one might believe that homosexuality is the whole driving force in the film. I find this a bit hard to believe. He speculated on the gender of some people not very convincingly. On the other hand, in instructing us on the influence of those who are admittedly gay, he demonstrates the importance of that influence. In the end, there’s a lot of fun in this book. Mr. Thomson is an excellent storyteller and he takes his knowledge lightly, allowing the reader to reach out. I just advise readers to open their eyes to this issue for a better experience.

I love this book so much. Thomson once again offers new insights into familiar classics. His essays on Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant are excellent. Sometimes you think he might be dragging a point or two but then you think about it and you know he’s not. His understanding of the studio system is second to none. Thomson dedicated this book to his wonderful friend Kieran Hickey. If I had a time machine, I’d love to go back and go to the movies with Kieran and Dave. What a joy that would be. Dave, thanks for a great read. You have done it again.
