Staked/ The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 8 – Free Full Audiobook
Staked is the eighth literary fiction book in the Iron Druid Chronicles series by author Kevin Hearne.
Iron Druid Atticus O’Sullivan, the hero of the New York Times best-selling urban fantasy series.
When a Druid has lived 2,000 years like Atticus’s father, he is bound to run into a few vampires – create their legion. Even his old friend and legal advisor turned out to be a backstabber. Now, toothed troublemakers – led by the power maniac Theophilus – have become a huge problem that needs a solution. It’s time to stand firm.
As always, Atticus wouldn’t mind a little help. But his allies have problems of their own. Ornery archdruid Owen Kennedy is having a bit of a trolling problem: Turns out when you’re hard on a troll, it’s not water under the bridge. Meanwhile, Granuaile is desperate to free herself from the mark of the Norse god Loki and evade his divisive power – a quest that will expose her to many Slavic nightmares.
As Atticus travels the world to stop his nemesis, Theophilus, the journey leads to Rome. What better place to end an immortal than the Eternal City? But poetic justice won’t come without cost: To defeat Theophilus, Atticus may have to lose an old friend.
Atticus O’Sullivan with his loyal dog Oberon, Owen Kennedy and Granuaile MacTiernan with his loyal dog Orlaith are all that remain of The Druids in this modern era. The oldest vampire set out to destroy The Druids just as he did two thousand years ago. He won’t rest until that is done. Atticus is working hard to make sure the vampire is gone or destroyed. Owen was given the opportunity to create more Druids, which left him speechless at the prospect. Granuaile is on his own to rest and work on his own agenda. Will the Druid survive? Your answer is waiting for you in Staked.
Honestly, I don’t know how Kevin Hearne does this but he completely rocked this book. The story and characters are real, engaging, raw, real, honest, and gritty. Atticus and Owen’s maturity is evident throughout the book. That’s not to say Granuaile doesn’t have her own mature moment. I was a bit sad that the book was over until the next one came out.
I love The Iron Druid Chronicles. Kevin Hearne’s writing style is amazing and his stories keep me hooked. His stories are clever, well researched yet easy to read. They are filled with topics but never leave me feeling confused. Kevin kept me entertained from the first page to the last. Atticus, Granuaile, and Owen all have their own chapters in this book. It is insightful to understand their different perspectives and a great way to get to know Granuaile and Owen better.
I have downloaded the Audible narration so I can listen to and read Stake. However, I finally listened to the whole thing! Christopher Ragland’s performance is brilliant once again. He took me on every adventure. The speed with which he read the story and the emotions he added to the various scenes were noticed. I loved the different accents and voices he gave each character – his performance brought them all to life. I immediately knew whose head we were in in different chapters and didn’t get lost in any chat dialogue.
