Sting-Ray Afternoons A Memoir – Audiobook Online Free
Sting-Ray Afternoons is a great book by author Steve Rushin.
A wild and bittersweet memoir of a classic ’70s childhood.
It’s a story from the 1970s. About a ride on a wood-paneled station wagon, with kids in the background, singing along to the Steve Miller Band. The brothers woke up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons and jingle commercials for five hours straight that they would hum all day. A father – one of 3M’s eight greatest and last fathers – travels the country in a brand new Boeing 747, providing for his family but wants nothing more than to be home.
Steve Rushin’s story: about growing up in the ’70s setting with Bic pens, Mr. Clean and Scrubbing Bubbles, lightsabers, and coveted Schwinn Sting-Ray bikes. Sting-Ray Afternoon paints a highly amusing, psychedelicly vibrant, laugh-out-loud portrait of a decade of splendor. With detached commentary, Rushin creates a vivid picture of a decade of wild youth, cultural rebirth, and what it means to be parenthood, brotherhood, and total love.
I grew up in the northern suburbs, Fridley and Spring Lake Park in the ’60s and ’70s. We’ve always disliked, possibly envied the Bloomington schools because they seemed so big and were always the strongmen in the nation. local sports, but I also respect them.
Like the author, I wanted a Schwinn catfish but I also have a so-called inferior brand. It’s a green Columbia stingray style that I put the ram high handlebars in in place of the original handlebars, I love that bike and could have put what’s wavy like thousands NO . I ended up buying a brown 10-speed Schwinn Varsity with chrome fenders, bike rack and genuine Schwinn speedometer. I go all over Mpls. on that including going to Met Stadium from Spring Lake Park multiple times to see the Twins.
The author wrote a wonderful memoir about that wonderful time. Although I am a little older than him, but I was born in 55, he has a strange memory and when I read his stories, I was able to go back to that time and relive many wonderful memories. of a time very precious and valued in me. life network. I am truly blessed and blessed to have parents, family and friends as parallels, in many ways, in his story.
I will definitely be following this writer and author and looking forward to more of his work.
Growing up in Western Canada a few years old, we experienced almost identical events and touches of stones. Including being in California when Elvis died. We were in Anaheim actually visiting Disney Land. We can’t afford it either so we have “Mustangs” that look alike. My friend completed the Sting-Ray with a crossbar-mounted 3-speed shifter. Car: ours was a station wagon Chev Beaumont and then a Dodge Monaco. Wood veneer, of course. And then there’s basketball. Except I come from football as opposed to football. I have cousins who play professional football, so Steve takes care of all of that. Parallel universe.
