Stolen By Lucy Christopher – Free Full Audiobook

Stolen is a beautiful book by author Lucy Christopher.
It happened like this. I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I know, everything I’m used to. Caught in sand and heat, dirt and danger.

This is my story.

A letter from nowhere.

Sixteen-year-old Gemma was kidnapped from Bangkok airport and taken to the Australian outback. This wild and desolate scene almost becomes a character in the book, described very vividly. Ty, her captor, is no stereotype. He’s young, healthy, and absolutely gorgeous. This new life in the wilderness has been planned for years. He only loves her, only wants her alone. Under the harsh Australian sun, cut off from the outside world, can the power of his love make Gemma love him back?

The story takes the form of a letter written by Gemma to Ty, reflecting on the strange and unsettling months in the outback. The months where the line between love and obsession, love and dependence, blurred until they didn’t exist—nearly no more.

When I was a teenager, I remember watching a movie with my family and the onscreen couple kissed for the first time and of course five seconds later they slept together. My dad, trying to keep the morals of four teenage girls intact, complained about the movies always doing this, making you root for things you don’t believe in. I remember thinking, “It’s just a movie; you have to want that,” because I wanted it.

Stolen is such a unique reading experience that it’s hard to decide how I feel about it.

Gemma is a sixteen-year-old English girl who is kidnapped by Ty and taken to the Western Australian outback, where she is held as a prisoner.

I had to give this book five stars for several reasons. One of the reasons is because it is so well written. Beautiful, touching, heartbreaking and real. Christopher doesn’t care about the good and bad details. Never before have I felt a book so real, gritty, and tangible.

This book is a journey into the world of Stockholm Syndrome and Christopher’s skill has left me feeling the effects of this puzzling psychological problem.

Ty and Gemma’s characters are amazing. At first, I was very disappointed with Gemma. I was so used to reading heroines who could do anything that it felt worse to be stuck with an incompetent and persecuted sixteen-year-old. However, she comes to you. Her pain, her struggle. She is actually sixteen years old. This is not a fantasy character that can do everything. However, she has a will and a spirit. Perhaps her defining feature is the truth she is willing to tell herself – completely and honestly.
