A tense judge targets Lupe, a young friend of Mel and Angie, at the competition, and aims to take her down – by any means necessary. When the same judge appeared dead beneath Mel and Angie’s cupcake display, Lupe was named the prime suspect. Now Mel and Angie will have to find the real killer quickly – or Lupe could be striding the prison catwalk….

Jenn McKinlay has the team from Fairy Tale Cupcakes enter a beauty contest in this story. Not only did they build beautiful cupcake towers to display at the competition, but they also baked cupcakes created by the contestants. Most of all, they are there for their young friend Lupe, who entered the contest to win a scholarship. Of course they didn’t take into account that Lupe and one of the judges had a very public debate in the lobby of the hotel where the event was being held. And they certainly didn’t expect the same judge to be found dead under the table containing Melanie and Angie’s cupcake tower! Making matters worse… Lupe is the prime suspect! Once again, Mel and crew find themselves trying to find the killer.

I love Jenn McKinlays books. I have to admit that I was craving cupcakes and frosting while reading. Her characters are funny and real and she still manages to surprise me with the twists and turns that come up in their relationship.
