Summer of ’69 Full Audiobook By Elin Hilderbrand

Elin Hilderbrand provides a detail of historical incidents of the particular era to make the book look more rich in information and connected to the late 60’s. The novel cannot be branded as a single person’s story because it talks about different members of the same family who used to visit a common place in the past.

The house of the grandmother was the place where the family used to gather during the summer vacation for a leisure time. Though everyone still wants to be together but they are so busy in their lives that they cannot find time to relish or relive their past.

Elin talks about family bonds that tend to get weaker all the time, grandmother is a symbolic figure as well because she is portrayed as the one who is not in proper senses. Just like the senses and the physic of the grandmother the trends of her era are weakening. Good thing is that no one is doing this intentionally as we see that one of the sister’s is pregnant because of which she cannot travel at all. The other is busy in her political campaigns. Their only brother is a soldier now and is in Vietnam. The only one who is present at the grandma house is a teenager who is not yet engaged in her practical life.

Erin Bennett uses the accent of the time and gives a historical touch to this novel about family bonds and traditions.  Quite different as compared to What Happens in Paradise but this has been author’s motive to dig deep in different cultures and traditions, moving from one island to the other for exploration. The approach is never philosophical; all the stories are written from a common man’s perspective that is why you don’t have to give it a second glance in order to understand it in a better way.
