The Black Book By: Edward W. Robertson – Audiobook Online

From USA Today bestseller and Audie Nominated Best Fantasy Novel Edward W. Robertson publishes book 2 of the hotly anticipated spin-off from the Cycle of Galand universe.

Cally and Rowe chased the demons from Narashtovik. But during the war, Cally learns that he can no longer be part of the pacifist Organization that raised him to be a sorcerer. The pair traveled south, looking for an actual copy of the Arawn Cycle – an artifact that Cally believes can restore proper rule to Narashtovik.

However, there are a few problems with this plan. For one, no one has seen real copies for decades. And another case, in these lands, owning a copy of the Cycle will be rewarded with a quick trip to the hangman’s house. If anyone discovers Cally can use the dark arts of the underworld, he’ll wish all he got in return was to be hanged.

Hunting for the book in the Western Kingdom, Cally and Rowe are arrested by the Inquisition and sentenced to serve them. Since the Inquisition tracks banned books, Cally has a higher chance of finding her prize than ever before. But one negligence will cost him his life. As the Inquisition follows its trail, it uncovers a plot that could be even more devastating than the one that nearly destroyed Narashtovik.

The story is good and I love the spin-off to the Original Cycle, but this book is like a recap of Dante’s exploits in the Collen Basin. Still worth a read and it could set up the rest of the books that follow, but I find myself thinking it’s repetitive.
