In 1795, a teenager discovered a mysterious circular depression in the ground on Oak Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, and sparked rumors of buried treasure. Since then, the mystery of Oak Island’s “Money Pit” has fascinated generations of treasure hunters, including a Boston insurance salesman who is haunted by the obsession that destroyed him. ; Young Franklin Delano Roosevelt; and movie star Errol Flynn. Confusing discoveries stimulated the imaginations of explorers: a flat stone engraved with codes; a flood tunnel from an artificial beach; a piece of torn parchment; Marker stones form a large cross. Strips of the island have been flattened in search of answers; The excavation effort claimed two lives. There are many theories about what is hidden on Oak Island – the pirates’ treasure, the lost jewels of Marie Antoinette, the Holy Grail, proof that Sir Francis Bacon was the real author of the plays. Shakespeare’s – but to this day, the Money Pit remains a mystery.

The Curse of Oak Island is a gripping account of the island’s rich, strange history and the intrepid treasure hunters who pushed themselves to the brink of finances, mental breakdowns and even even death in pursuit of answers. Watching a episode on Netflix left me with a lot of questions. This well-researched book filled in the gaps and provided more details that I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended because of the author’s credibility and part-participation, in the reality TV series. The narrator is also excellent at bringing the story to life as there is a lot of factual information. Hopefully one day there will be a sequel as the story continues and the plot mounts.

I highly recommend reading this audiobook if you like the history & “what if” of Oak Island. Not sure I like the author’s writing style due to his association with Rolling Stone but I’m surprised to say that the writing is very, very good and I enjoyed the narrator’s presentation. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to listen to this book and I’m happy to say that I’ve gained a new respect for Randall Sullivan’s writing style.
