The Glass Hotel / A Novel, Audiobook Online By: Emily St. John Mandel

Vincent is a bartender at the Caiette Hotel, a five-star hotel on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island.

The night she met Jonathan Alkaitis, a hooded man scrawled a message on the glass wall of the lobby: Why don’t you swallow broken glass. High up in Manhattan, a bigger crime occurred: Alkaitis’s multibillion-dollar business was really nothing more than a game of smoke and mirrors.

When his plan falls apart, it will wipe out countless fortunes and wreak havoc on lives. Vincent, who has pretended to be Jonathan’s wife, leaves in the night. Years later, a victim of a scam is hired to investigate a strange incident: a woman who appears to have disappeared from the deck of a container ship between docks.

In this gripping tale of crisis and survival, Emily St. John Mandel takes readers through often hidden landscapes: campsites for the near-homeless, underground electronic clubs, catering in luxury hotels, and life in a federal prison. Full of unexpected beauty, The Glass Hotel is a captivating portrait of greed and sin, love and delusion, ghosts and unintended consequences, as well as the myriad ways we seek meaning in his life.

I’m excited to hear Emily St.’s latest novel. John Mandel and downloaded it on release date. I didn’t read any reviews, didn’t want to spoil the story. However, in the process of purchasing it, I noticed it is classified as Mystery, Psychological. Hmm. Yes, I enjoyed the book, not as much as Station Eleven, but still enjoyed it. Call it Historical Fiction, Literary Fiction or Simple Fiction, but not Mystery.

Just as great as Station Eleven. Graceful, flowing prose, a timely and perhaps even heralded story. The characters aren’t perfect, but they have flaws and are realistic. The seemingly random parts of the plot are mostly connected at the end. And I really like this narrator! Audible, give her more to narrate.
