The Hating Game is a contemporary romance novel written by Sally Thorne. The story revolves around Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman, two coworkers who share a mutual dislike for each other. Lucy and Joshua work at Bexley & Gamin, a publishing company, and find themselves competing for the same promotion.

Lucy Hutton is the executive assistant to the co-CEO of Bexley & Gamin, while Joshua Templeman is the executive assistant to the other co-CEO. They have completely opposite personalities and approaches to work. Lucy is cheerful, colorful, and always tries to please everyone, while Joshua is serious, reserved, and intimidating.

Their rivalry begins with small pranks and games they play on each other throughout the day. They engage in a series of witty banter and sarcastic remarks that create a tense atmosphere in the office. However, as they spend more time together, Lucy starts to notice that there might be more to Joshua than meets the eye.

As Lucy and Joshua are forced to work closely together on a project, they begin to discover each other’s vulnerabilities and secrets. They slowly start to understand one another and develop a deeper connection. The line between love and hate becomes blurred as their relationship evolves into something unexpected.

Throughout the novel, Lucy faces various challenges in her personal and professional life. She struggles with her self-confidence and insecurities, particularly when it comes to her appearance. On the other hand, Joshua has his own demons to battle, including a difficult past that has shaped his guarded personality.

As their feelings for each other intensify, Lucy and Joshua must confront their fears and confront the possibility of a romantic relationship. They navigate through misunderstandings, miscommunications, and emotional barriers that threaten to keep them apart.

The Hating Game explores themes of love, vulnerability, self-acceptance, and personal growth. It delves into the complexities of human relationships and the power of overcoming differences. Sally Thorne’s writing style combines humor, wit, and emotional depth to create a captivating and heartwarming story.

In conclusion, The Hating Game is a contemporary romance novel that follows the journey of Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman as they navigate their complicated relationship from hatred to love. It is a story filled with humor, tension, and emotional depth that explores themes of self-discovery and personal growth.

A famous book must have something worthy of being famous. I think the most special thing about The Hating Game is the childish but very funny games that Lucy and Josh play together. From the Hate Game to the Staring Game, to the “Game or something,” the game changes show the evolving relationship between the two characters.

There are no heartbreaking moments and the only sex scene is clean and sweet. It’s all about the dramatic yet endearing chaos in the two characters’ love, family, and career lives. It’s a really interesting book, but I didn’t have the same feelings when I finished it. Maybe I feel distant from the characters? Or maybe I feel so unrealistic of the story? I’m not sure…

This book was a surprise to me. I love that it’s not all about a blossoming love. It’s more complicated, sweet, and unsettling than a normal romance book. I love the office setting. This is the first audio book that I want to hear again.
