International bestselling author Alexander McCall Smith brings another exciting story from the critically acclaimed #1 Ladies Detective Agency series.
Precious Ramotswe’s comfortable existence as the sole detective in Botswana is suddenly thrown into disarray when the Satisfaction Guaranteed Detective Agency opens its doors, and its flyer declares, “Don’t risk it! Entrust your requests to ONE PERSON!” As if growth weren’t enough, Mma Ramotswe has also taken on two difficult cases, one of which happened close to home. But with her wisdom, Mma Ramotswe manages to crack both cases and outshine her competition.
As in every A.McCall book, this one, once again, took me to a place of peace/no boredom; learn and explore/don’t condescend; and, excitement/no adrenaline. The reader, Lizette, is not “good.” She was excellent. I would love to see her perform, as she must be an excellent actress on stage/film, as well as in books. Treat yourself to all these Botswana books…beware though, might make you want to move there – soon.
Alexander McCall Smith never lets you down and “The 1st Ladies Detective Agency” is a gift that keeps on giving. I love what I am learning about Africa and its people. It is clear that AMS loves Africa and its people, especially Botswana. I wanted to sit with Mrs. Precious Ramotswe and share some Bush tea, an interesting conversation. She is wise and compassionate. I have a long way to go in the series but that’s okay. This means I can enjoy some good company for quite some time. I’d like to invite Alexander McCall Smith to join us for Bush tea and some fruitcake. The conversation will be very interesting.
A different plot and told in the same “breathless” style as the previous books in this series. Where does the author get these simple ideas and put the complex psychology of life into them.
