The Last Suppers By Diane Mott Davidson – Audiobook Online

The Last Suppers is the fourth book in the Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery series written by Diane Mott Davidson. This cozy mystery novel follows the adventures of Goldy Bear, a caterer and amateur sleuth, as she becomes entangled in a murder investigation while preparing for a high-profile event.

The story takes place in Aspen Meadow, a small town in Colorado, where Goldy runs her catering business. As the book begins, Goldy is hired to cater an extravagant dinner party at the home of wealthy socialite Drew Wellington. The event is meant to celebrate the opening of a new exhibit at the local art museum and is attended by numerous influential guests.

However, things take a dark turn when one of the guests, notorious womanizer and art collector Bruce Teller, is found dead during the party. The police quickly rule it as a suicide, but Goldy suspects foul play. Determined to uncover the truth, she starts her own investigation, much to the chagrin of her police officer husband Tom.

As Goldy delves deeper into the case, she discovers that Bruce Teller had many enemies who might have wanted him dead. From disgruntled ex-lovers to business rivals and even family members, there are plenty of suspects with motives. With her culinary skills and sharp intuition, Goldy uncovers secrets and uncovers hidden connections between the guests at the party.

Throughout the book, Goldy faces numerous challenges and obstacles in her quest for justice. She encounters resistance from both the police and some of the suspects who try to hinder her investigation. However, with determination and resourcefulness, she manages to gather evidence and piece together the puzzle.

As Goldy gets closer to unraveling the truth behind Bruce Teller’s death, she finds herself in danger. The killer realizes that she is onto them and becomes desperate to silence her. In a thrilling climax, Goldy confronts the murderer and manages to bring them to justice, all while saving her own life.

“The Last Suppers” is not only a murder mystery but also a culinary delight. Throughout the book, Diane Mott Davidson includes mouthwatering descriptions of Goldy’s catering creations, tantalizing readers with delicious recipes and culinary tips. The author’s attention to detail in both the mystery plot and the food elements adds depth and richness to the story.

Overall, “The Last Suppers” is an engaging and entertaining cozy mystery that keeps readers guessing until the very end. Diane Mott Davidson’s writing style is engaging, and her characters are well-developed and relatable. This book is a must-read for fans of culinary mysteries and those who enjoy a good whodunit.

Diane Mott Davidson, the Queen of Culinary Mysteries, has once again formulated a clever recipe for murder and mystery. With The Last Supper, she continues to whet her listeners’ appetites for both good reading and delicious food.
Caterer Goldy Bear’s wedding day turns into a nightmare when her groom, homicide detective Tom Schulz, calls her from the crime scene and then disappears. Her only clue to his disappearance was a cryptic note dropped at the crime scene. Its biblical references led her to look for a Judas among her friends in the church congregation.

Discovering conspiracies in the most unlikely of places, Goldy is so distraught that he hears voices in his head. Will she be a widow before she is a bride?

Barbara Rosenblat’s vivid narration is captivating. Whether listeners are listening to the unflattering details of the elaborate murder plot or learning the author’s original recipe for Monster Waffles and Chocolate Truffles the author’s good taste, they wouldn’t want the book to end.

This is the 4th book in the series, first published in 1994. This book has an eBook and audio file and is whisper synced. The narrator is Barbara Rosenblat, a capable storyteller, but she tends to squeal. I bought this book because I saw a movie on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries and loved it. The series is called “The Curious Caterer”, which I like better than the “Goldy Schultz Series”. Often the book can be more interesting than the movie. The characters in the movie are less aggressive than in the novel, which I like more. Davidson does a great job depicting Colorado’s landscape and weather.
In this story, Goldy’s ex-husband, John Richard, appears only in the dark. He was mentioned, but no abuse was shown. The hero, Police Investigator Tom Schultz, is a ghost in this story because he was kidnapped in the second chapter! Davidson did a great job of balancing Goldy’s natural emotional response to Tom’s abduction and his determination to do all he could to solve the mystery and get Tom back to the killer before he could. also killed. I didn’t like the part of the story that featured Goldy serving her own wedding. It added an element of frenzy but not much. Perhaps the wedding could take place during spring break, and Julian could fly back from Cornell to prepare the food with Archie’s help.
The food perspective of the story is getting better. If you are a longtime reader of Nero Wolfe, this part of the book will not appeal to you. I also think Jennifer Ashley’s Mysteries Under the Stairs has a better development on the food side. The synopsis says, “five star food”, but I would call it “three star food”. If Davidson wants to enhance her food descriptions, I recommend reading Niki Segnit’s Dictionary of Flavors. This book contains a great taste wheel. The food pairings are incredible, and the descriptions are gentle and informative.
On the mystery side, Davidson is also maturing in his skills and the mystery is fascinating.
A lot of stories happen at Goldy’s church, Tom is kidnapped while Goldy is waiting for him in the church. This is an interesting and insightful scene that Davidson has handled very well.
