Narrators Bailey Carr, Samantha Desz and January LaVoy are the perfect trio to narrate Megan Goldin’s latest thriller involving a true-crime podcaster and her coverage of a forced trial. raped in a North Carolina town.” (AudioFile Magazine)
In The Night Swim, a new thriller from Megan Goldin, the author of the “grisly and unforgettable” The Escape Room (Harlen Coben), a true-crime podcast host tells of a controversial trial. Controversial finds himself drawn deep into the dark past of a small town and a brutal crime that took place there many years ago.
Ever since her true-crime podcast went viral overnight and freed an innocent man, Rachel Krall has become a household name—and her last hope. for those seeking justice. But she was once recognized for her voice, not her face. That made things even more unsettling when she found a note on her car windshield, sent to her, begging for help.
Rachel’s new podcast season transports her to a small town torn apart by a brutal rape trial. A local golden boy, a swimmer dubbed the Olympic great, has been accused of raping the sheriff’s beloved granddaughter. Under pressure to make the third season a success, Rachel embarks on her investigation—but the mysterious letters keep coming. Someone is watching her and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister 25 years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters claimed she was murdered—and when Rachel started asking questions, no one in town wanted to answer. Past and present begin to collide when Rachel discovers a startling connection between the two cases—and a revelation that will change the course of the trial and the lives of those involved.
Electrifying and engaging, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of fame? Can a small town fix its past mistakes? And what really happened to Jenny?
The Night Swim is a book with a profound and resonant message regarding the burden of proving and carrying the past with you. The Night Swim is written in various POVs, switching between Rachel, Hannah, and podcast episodes. In my opinion, the POV transition just strengthens the story by keeping me confident. The podcast episodes gave a great overview of the proceedings, interwoven with serious thought and written in a way that made me feel like I was in Neapolis. Rachel’s POV really helped move the story forward, while Hannah provided great insight into the past and excerpts of the story involving her sister. The Night Swim has a lovely and despicable cast of characters. All together, this book makes for a wonderful, compelling story.
