The Oak Apple / Morland Dynasty, Book 4 – Audiobook Online
The Oak Apple is the fourth novel in the Morland Dynasty series by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. Set in England during the late 17th century, the novel tells the story of the Morland family and their fortunes during a turbulent time in English history. At the heart of the novel is the story of Eleanor Courteney, the widowed Lady Morland, who must navigate the treacherous political and social landscape of the era. With the restoration of the monarchy, the Morlands find themselves once again in favor with the ruling elite, but they must also contend with new challenges, including religious conflict and the rise of the Whig party. As Eleanor works to secure her family’s position and protect their interests, she must also contend with personal challenges, including tension with her own children and the return of an old flame. At the same time, she supports her granddaughter, Lucy, as she navigates her way through courtship and marriage. Against the backdrop of English society in the late 17th century, The Oak Apple offers a rich and detailed portrait of a family and a nation in flux. Cynthia Harrod-Eagles’ extensive research and dynamic characters bring the era to life, while the Morland family’s struggles and triumphs offer a compelling and engaging read.

1630: After years of peace, the reign of Charles I brings devastating civil war to England.
The clash between the King and Parliament was repeated at Morland Place when Richard brought home a Puritan bride while his brother, Kit, joined Prince Rupert and the Royal Cavalry, leaving his father behind, they are Edmund desperately trying to steer a middle path between the fighting factions. As the war continued, bitterness and disillusionment replaced the initial enthusiasm, and the division between husband and wife, father and son deepened.
Edmund struggles to get through it all in an attempt to keep Morland’s fortune intact, but he is thwarted by an estrangement between his sons and subsequent alienation from his beloved wife, Mary.
Love her books, I will go through them one by one. Most of the women are terrible and dominating, they send their young men into battle without looking back and I see there may be too many characters for me to follow people. Above all, I love history and put personal, albeit fictional, views into real events to bring things to life. Great tool. I was a little worried that what I wrote seemed to be in the same style but I had never read any of Harrod-Eagles’ work before I published The Poet’s Trap. There are also a lot of typos in the book, I think this is also general.
As fans of the series would expect, this book is not to be missed, and I read it in 2 days. Be aware, however, that this is a very poor Kindle copy, apparently done electronically without anyone reading the proof. Words on most of the pages are mispronounced and the word ‘the’ is written over and over as ‘die’. Frustrating. The trick is that if you buy the kindle version, the Cynthia Harrod Eagles website has a family tree that you can print out and keep in your kindle case, as the kindle version can’t be read and I’ve always found the tree useful. helpful from the very beginning of her book until you get back to family relationships.
