The Outlaw Demon Wails By Kim Harrison – Audiobook Online
The Outlaw Demon Wails is the sixth book in the urban fantasy series The Hollows written by Kim Harrison. Published in 2008, it continues the thrilling adventures of Rachel Morgan, a witch and bounty hunter living in a world where supernatural beings coexist with humans.
In this installment, Rachel finds herself facing one of her most dangerous and personal challenges yet. The story picks up shortly after the events of the previous book, For a Few Demons More. Rachel is still recovering from the traumatic loss of her vampire roommate and former lover, Ivy Tamwood. However, she must put her grief aside when she discovers that a demon she thought she had banished years ago has returned to seek revenge.
The demon, Al, was once Rachel’s teacher and lover. He was banished to the ever-after, a parallel dimension inhabited by demons and other supernatural creatures. Now, Al has found a way to escape and is determined to make Rachel pay for his imprisonment. As he wreaks havoc on Cincinnati, Rachel realizes that she is his primary target.
To make matters worse, Rachel’s life is further complicated by the presence of a mysterious serial killer known as the “Were” who is targeting ley line witches. As a ley line witch herself, Rachel becomes entangled in the investigation led by Detective Glenn Edden. With her unique abilities and connections to both the supernatural and human worlds, Rachel becomes an invaluable asset in solving the case.
As Rachel delves deeper into the mystery surrounding the “Were” killings, she uncovers shocking secrets about her own past and her family lineage. She learns that her father was not who she believed him to be and that her true heritage holds significant power within the supernatural community. These revelations force Rachel to confront her own identity and question her place in both worlds.
Throughout the novel, Rachel faces numerous obstacles and dangers as she battles against Al and tries to unravel the truth behind the “Were” killings. She is aided by her loyal friends and allies, including her pixy partner Jenks, her living vampire roommate and business partner, Ivy, and the mysterious yet alluring elf Trent Kalamack. Together, they form an unlikely but formidable team determined to protect Cincinnati from the growing supernatural threats.
The Outlaw Demon Wails is a thrilling and action-packed installment in The Hollows series. It explores themes of identity, redemption, and the consequences of one’s choices. Kim Harrison’s vivid world-building and complex characters make for an engaging read that will captivate fans of urban fantasy.

The Outlaw Demon Wails
- Narrated by: Gigi Bermingham
To save the lives of her friends, Rachel does the unthinkable: she willingly trades forbidden magic. And now her guilt is coming home to haunt her.
As Rachel searches for the truth behind a gruesome murder, an even greater threat threatens, as the evil Algaliarept will spare no means to possess her, and the discovery of a secret shocking family that puts Rachel’s entire life into question. If she were to live free, Rachel must first be willing to enter the demon world forever in search of ancient knowledge long lost.
But when you dance with the devil, you put your soul on the line… and there are some boundaries that can never be crossed.
I have been following the print run of the series and was delighted to see the recording. The narration is reasonable but not too great – the demon’s British accent never reaches sinister and it’s hard for any narrator to live with the dangerous sensuality of Ivy’s ‘gray silk’ voice. Still, it’s clear, easy to follow, non-obtrusive, and I’m sure it’s a song I’ll enjoy listening to over and over again.
This book is interesting like the others but hard to enjoy because the narrator is different from other books, she is a good storyteller but after hearing the characters one way it is difficult to listen to them in a different way. Different ways. Maybe you should read this to avoid confusion and download the others.
I love audio books. I believe this is the best moment for Rachel and Kim Harrison. I’ve listened to the whole series 7 times (itunes says so, except for this series 4 times) and am still in awe of the characters and the depth Mrs. I would recommend this entire series to any of my friends interested in the “Inderland” community.
