Despite his desire to devote himself to introducing new knowledge, Yozef became increasingly absorbed in weapon development and giving tactical and strategic advice – things he knew he was not qualified to offer. The enemy is coming. The odds seem overwhelming, and Yozef will need all he can, his newcomers’ courage and luck, to survive.

As others have mentioned, this is a book that is really hard to stop listening to (as well as volume 1). Thorensen’s story is brilliant in its conception and execution. Jonathan Davis is a superstar reader. Put it all together and you might as well get used to saying “ssshhh, I’m listening to a story!” for everyone you know for a day or two.

One thing I really like about these books that I haven’t seen in other reviews, is that each book so far has a natural conclusion to its story. I find spoilers annoying but this book and the first book both have a satisfying conclusion while leaving the story open to develop. I feel like Thorensen respects his readers – he certainly doesn’t need spoilers gimmicks to get people reading a sequel. The stories are flat out great.

Attract. Can’t wait for the third book to come to Audible. Finished book 2 in less than 2 days. I’m really sad that I started listening before this whole series was released as audio, because now I’m counting the days until the next release. The narrator tells a compelling story and delivers a performance that reaffirms my respect for people who are capable of this level of artistic storytelling. I really have feelings of anticipation and fear, sadness and joy. There are moments that give me chills. I laugh out loud. The story is really interesting and the narrator fits the books perfectly. If it’s not clear yet, I highly recommend reading this book, especially. if you are looking for the perfect ratio between sci-fi and fantasy.
