The PMS Murder / Jaine Austen Mysteries, Book 5, Audiobook Online By: Laura Levine
On the front lines of the battle for bulges, aka bathing suits in a shared locker room at Loehmann’s, freelance writer Jaine Austen makes new friends – an aspiring actress named Pam – and gets a new job: editing Pam’s candid resume.
Their sense of connection was mutual, so Pam invited Jaine to join the PMS Club – a women’s support group that meets once a week about guacamole and margarine.
But joining the club proved to be more of a curse than a blessing for Jaine. Although she was warned that Rochelle, the hostess, would make guacamole to death, Jaine never took that warning literally. Until another member of PMS, Marybeth, died from a sip of the green stuff. Now instead of digging dirty things with The PMS Club, Jaine has to dig up dirty things about the surviving members….
Laura Levine’s Jaine Austen is a cute, funny mystery. I’m one of those looking forward to the antics of the cat and her parents and don’t find it strange that Jaine switched to eating danish put on her bathtub to avoid offending the fickle dieting Prozac. I guess the killer was almost like Jaine – a bit light but at least she figured it out before getting hit. Too many heroines don’t discover the whodunit until the villain is trying to kill them. This is a lovely book to spend a lazy afternoon.
As a fan of “The Mysteries of Jaine Austen,” and of course Prozac, I can’t get my hands on the next book in the series right after reading one, and this one didn’t disappoint either. This book has the usual format of previous books: Jaine struggles to make ends meet with freelance projects, serves her cat as a pet lover does, doesn’t survive a love life, constantly struggles with her weight, solves a mysterious murder, and exchanges emails with her parents living in a Florida retirement community. Despite the fact that all the books I have read in this series are in the same format, they are all very entertaining and funny. This is one of those series that gets better with each book.
