The Pusher: 87th Precinct, Book 3 – Audiobook Online

“The Pusher,” the third book in Ed McBain’s 87th Precinct series, follows Detective Steve Carella and Lieutenant Peter Byrnes as they investigate the supposed suicide of a teen found hanging in a basement. However, an autopsy reveals that the boy died of a heroin overdose before being strung up to conceal the true cause of death. The discovery leads the detectives down a murky path, complicating what initially appeared to be a straightforward case. As they delve into the world of drug users and dealers, they find themselves faced with a new menace—a pusher who has infiltrated their community and has a hold on a cop’s son. With their lives and the lives of those close to them on the line, Carella and Byrnes must work tirelessly to apprehend the dangerous pusher before he brings further harm to their lives.

A cold night causes a body to turn blue – not frozen, but dangling from a rope in a damp basement. The teen’s death seemed like an obvious case of suicide, but Detective Steve Carella and Lieutenant Peter Byrnes found a few inconsistent facts and an autopsy confirmed their suspicions. The boy didn’t hang himself but was high on drugs before an unidentified companion tied him up to conceal the true cause of death.

The revelation that dredged up enough scum to muddy the waters should have been an open and closed case. To find the answer to a life gone wrong, Carella and Byrnes face a deep struggle within a community of users and scammers – but a grim phone call reveals that the same community has got its claws in a cop’s son. A new swindler is claiming rights right under the nose of Division 87, and it’s Carella and Byrnes’ mission to capture the viper before it poisons their entire lives.

A man is found dead what appears to be a suicide but is actually a murder while Lieutenant Byrne discovers his son is using drugs. A gritty and realistic novel that’s still as fresh as it was in 1956. Highly recommended.

I read this book many years ago and still love it. The series again. Good Viet. Interesting plot and characters. Love the city!

It’s interesting that Ed McBain writes. Detective Carmella shouldn’t have died… and an article will tell us why. Good book with different characters…and that’s how McBain planned the 87th series. Next day!
