The Riverman By Alex Gray – Audiobook Online
The Riverman is the fourth book in the DSI William Lorimer series written by Alex Gray. This crime thriller follows Detective Superintendent Lorimer as he investigates a series of brutal murders that seem to be connected to the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
The story begins with the discovery of a young woman’s body floating in the river. The victim, Elaine Buxton, was a successful lawyer with no apparent enemies. As Lorimer and his team delve into her personal and professional life, they uncover a web of secrets and lies that could have led to her untimely demise.
As the investigation progresses, Lorimer becomes convinced that there is a serial killer targeting women associated with the river. He discovers similarities between Elaine’s murder and other unsolved cases from years ago. With each new victim, the pressure mounts for Lorimer to catch the killer before more lives are lost.
Lorimer’s personal life also comes into play as his wife, Maggie, becomes involved in the case. She works as a profiler for the police force and provides valuable insights into the mind of the killer. Together, they navigate through a complex maze of clues and suspects, trying to piece together the puzzle before it’s too late.
Throughout the book, Gray skillfully weaves together multiple storylines and perspectives. The narrative alternates between Lorimer’s investigation, Maggie’s profiling work, and glimpses into the mind of the killer. This multi-layered approach adds depth and suspense to the story, keeping readers engaged until the very end.
As Lorimer gets closer to identifying the killer, he realizes that there may be a personal connection between them. The tension rises as he races against time to catch the Riverman before he strikes again. The climax of the book is filled with twists and turns, leading to a shocking revelation that will leave readers stunned.
Overall, The Riverman is a gripping crime novel that combines intricate plotting, well-developed characters, and a vivid sense of place. Alex Gray’s writing style is engaging and atmospheric, capturing the essence of Glasgow and its dark underbelly. The Riverman
- Series: DSI William Lorimer, Book 4
- Narrated by: Joe Dunlop
When a man’s dead body was retrieved from the River Clyde in Glasgow the morning after office celebrations, it appeared to be an accidental death. However, an anonymous phone call and forensic toxicology test gave DCI Lorimer reason to think otherwise.
Digging deeper into the life and business of the deceased accountant, Duncan Forbes, a seemingly righteous member of the community, Lorimer found only many unanswered questions. What is the secret his widow seems to be hiding? Is there any reason to think that the international accounting firm is in financial trouble? What happened to the guardian of the dead man who disappeared in New York? And when the company’s human resources manager is found dead in her riverside apartment, these questions only get more complicated – not to mention more disturbing.
I forgot the name of this author when I read (listened to) the first three parts, so glad I found this series again and was able to continue with it. This is no exception for the first three very well. I loved this book working my way through the season. I’m still an Ian Rankin fan and love my Rebus, now I’m into lorimer. I would recommend this and if you know Glasgow you are right next to him. I started the book 5 ttfn.
I loved this book working my way through the season. I’m still an Ian Rankin fan and love my Rebus, now I’m into lorimer. I would recommend this and if you know Glasgow you are right next to him. I started the book 5 ttfn. Again, this is a good listen with a few plot twists. I enjoyed listening to g and looking forward to the next book.
I believe this is the first book I read with a setting in Glasgow, and the author has made her proud. Both the seed area and the newer, growing area are equally well drawn. The river provides context, mystery, cold mist, and watery tombs. And above all the calm presence of the ferryman, a beautifully written character based on the real Clyde ferryman. The conclusion was not a shock, but there were surprises throughout. Enjoyed Lorimans as a couple and as individuals. Looking forward to the next installment in this series.
