Adelina Amouteru’s heart is determined to take revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister fled Kenettra to find other young Elites in hopes of building an army of their own. Her goal: destroy the Investigative Axis, the white robed soldiers nearly killed her.
But Adelina is not a heroine. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her old friends at the Dagger Association want to quell her thirst for revenge. Adelina tries to keep the good things inside her. But how can someone be good when her very existence depends on darkness?
This book is absolutely amazing!!!
Marie Lu did a great job in conveying a realistic ending and plot for an unrealistic book. She is not happy every time, you read this book and it makes you restless because it is so different and does not follow the unwritten rules of fantasy and fiction books. We all know that this book is fantasy but the way that emotions and motives are captured in this book is absolutely amazing. Let’s start with Adelina, this girl has had a hard time, she lost everything, she has no one and she trusts no one. Her character, engulfed in hatred really emphasizes the effect traumatic experiences can have on a person. She takes her own anger and the anger, fear and pain of others and nurtures it, Adelina has been perfectly developed in this book from the way her emotions are constantly shifting and changing. She goes from guilt and loneliness, to feeling sorry and forgiving, then to feeling revenge and hatred, and finally to a thirst for power and less regret. She embodies someone blinded by anger and hatred, she becomes unforgiving and I love how Lu writes freely, she doesn’t suppress the emotions that Adelina feels and she perfectly portrays the corruption of the heart.
I really enjoyed this book even if it sometimes seems like it will be slow since this is the second book in the series. However, I really like Adelina’s story because she is such a typical character. Prefer to follow a villain instead of a good girl. This book has so many shades of gray that I have to rethink my view of color.
