The Seventh Perfection – Audiobook Online By: Daniel Polansky

Daniel Polansky returns with The Seventh Perfection, an innovative, groundbreaking fantasy mystery.

When a woman with a perfect memory begins to solve a puzzle, the threads she pulls can cause an entire city to fall. The God – King who created her is in danger, and his other servants will do anything to stop her.

To become the God – King’s Amanuensis, Manet must master all seven perfections, developing his body and mind to the pinnacle of being human. She remembers everything that happened to her, with absolute clarity, a gift that is sure to drive her crazy. But before she goes, Manet must unravel a secret that threatens not only the carefully crafted myths of the God – King’s ascent, but her own identity and the very nature of her own. Real.

This is a fascinating experimental novel. It is told in false second person; our main characters are silent, anonymous and only we know them through the observation of others. Polansky gave us half the conversation, but the whole story. It deals with broad topics, such as the fragility of empires, the role of propaganda, and the sacrifices inherent in understanding hard truths. The protagonist both accomplishes her goal and becomes what she fears and hates the most, all in one fell swoop. The world building is ingenious and seamless. Each little tidbit we are given will weigh ten times as much as itself when it comes to creating a sense of atmosphere and background. While it’s tempting to label it as dreamy, one – of – a – kind, that wouldn’t do justice to the sense of existence that Polansky tries to convey. I would highly recommend this novel to fans of KJ Parker’s novels. It has the same sense of irreverence and experimentation.

Ahoy have me mate! This is a very interesting read. The story is about a girl who is looking for information about a person whose image appears in the locket. This main character has a perfect memory. The story is told as a monologue from various people the protagonist interviews. You have no view of the girl herself. The questions she asks in her investigation are prompted by the answers the other characters give. Each chapter introduces a different person. The world building is fleeting in small passages. Essentially, every aspect of this book is a puzzle that the reader must figure out. I prefer the journey. Just go with the flow. I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts. Arrr.
