The Parting Stone is the middle book by Tad Williams in the fantasy epic Memory, Sorrow, and The Thorn. It’s a definite improvement on the first book, though it doesn’t eliminate all of the first book’s weaknesses.
Prose is much improved. Williams has finally found her knack for metaphors that are descriptive and strangely compelling. Gone are the puzzling puzzles from the first book. Williams’ ability to compare dissimilar things to really paint a picture in your head is pretty good and will leave you with some very impressive images.
Having said that, the editing is still terrible. Misplaced punctuation, especially punctuation, really interrupts the flow and pulls you out of the moment. As with the first one, I’m not sure if this is just poor editing or a byproduct of the transition from paperback to Kindle edition, but it sucks.
