Dave Robicheaux is back in another Bayou adventure, this time more gruesome and painful than any before.

Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, flooding streets and buildings and flooding the city with opportunists, looters, and bad criminals. No order, no rules. This promises to be the heaviest and most emotional case that Robicheaux has ever had to do.

In his unique style, which defies genre, James Lee Burke creates a haunting picture of life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Filled with intricate characters and vivid depictions of the destruction and death that have enveloped the Big Easy, The Tin Roof Blowdown is an action thriller as well as a poignant story about what’s going on. disaster and despair can inflict on people.

I experienced firsthand Katrina, who lives on the north shore of Louisiana’s Lake Maurepas, just above New Orleans. James Lee Burke’s descriptions of what happened during and after Hurricane Katrina are so real, it’s like a flashback. Detective Dave Robicheaux, of the New Iberian Parish Sheriff’s Office, and his partner, P.I. Clete Purcell, takes us on a terrifying trip to New Orleans, tracking criminals and solving mysteries, during dark and turbulent times. We experience the drama of fear and the courage it takes to survive it all. Burke also tells us that there have been multiple efforts by law enforcement, paramedics, emergency services, and cleanup teams to restore order to southern Louisiana.

I’ve read a lot about post – Katrina New Orleans and it’s nothing like the way it’s described in this book. With Patton’s delivery, it almost breaks your heart. It is so striking, it becomes another aspect of the book. While the relationships developed between the characters add to the richness of the plot from book to book, I believe this book can stand alone in the series. If you’ve ever wanted to dip your feet into a James Lee Burke book, this might be the book for you. I’m not sure what it would be like to read this book instead of listening, but I can assure you that this is one of the most amazing blends of text and narrative you’ll ever come across.
